First Look at “Adventures of Supergirl” Comic Cover

Hollywood Reporter has the exclusive first look at the new digital Supergirl comic based on the ongoing TV series (posted in the aptly-named “Heat Vision” category). While series artist Bengal has been busy posting beautiful interior artwork to Twitter (see above sample), the HR article shows off the first issue’s cover by Cat Staggs.

Fans wanting more adventures of Kara Danvers will get their wish starting next week, when DC Entertainment launches Adventures of Supergirl, a digital comic companion to the CBS superhero series.

THR has an exclusive reveal of artist Cat Staggs’ cover for the first issue.

“I am beyond thrilled to be writing Supergirl again,” writer Sterling Gates — whose 2008-2011 run on the DC Entertainment character was both critically acclaimed and source material for elements of the CBS show — told THR about the project. “Supergirl is one of my all-time favorite characters — I think she’s one of DC’s best characters, period — and I was extremely honored when DC Comics and the producers of CBS’ hit television show asked me to write Adventures of Supergirl.”

Gates continued, “Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg have created a unique and frankly brilliant take on Kara ‘Supergirl’ Danvers, and our comic will be an extension of their fantastic world. Fans of the show can expect to see all their favorite Supergirl characters play a role in our massively action-packed 13-part story exploring the various facets of Supergirl’s life!”

The new digital series will see new installments released every two weeks, with a print collection due later in the year. “My editors have assembled a wildly talented group of artists — including Bengal, Jonboy Meyers, Emanuela Lupacchino, Emma Vieceli and the brilliant cover artist, Cat Staggs — and our goal is to knock your super-socks off every two weeks across 2016,” Gates explained.

Staggs’ artwork has previously appeared on the covers of other comic book continuations of TV series, including DC’s Smallville Season 11 and The Vampire Diaries, as well as IDW Publishing’s Orphan Black.

The first issue of the series is released Jan. 25.
