CBS Officially Picks up Supergirl!

E! Online and Variety have confirmed that Supergirl is the first series pickup by CBS for the 2015-16 season.

The superhero obsession continues! Are you ready for more DC Comics goodness on your TV screen?

E! News has learned that drama pilot Supergirl, starring Glee‘s Melissa Benoist, is officially taking flight at CBS, as the network has picked up the new comic book show for a full series order. No surprise there, since comic book shows keep on dominating the small and big screens!

The pilot evidently impressed CBS execs enough to announce the pickup prior to the advertising upfronts next week. According to The Hollywood Report, CBS Entertainment chairperson Nina Tassler saw the final cut and loved it. A premiere date has not yet been announced.

The bigger question for CBS will be where to schedule Supergirl as the younger-skewing drama on paper doesn’t seem to be well-suited to pair with any of its existing lineup. Multiple sources suggested CBS could slot it for the family-friendly Sundays at 8 p.m. slot or pair it in the summer with other sci-fi fare like pricey big-swings Under the Dome, Extant and Zoo.

Lois & Clark did well in the Sunday night time slot on ABC. That family-friendly slot sounds like a better idea than trying to pair the show with dark, esoteric sci-fi shows that will probably not last long. I can think of no better success than for young fans to be excitedly watching the show every Sunday night with their parents. (Does anyone watch TV live anymore?) That would be awesome.
