Helen Slater Confirms Guest Star Role on Supergirl
Helen Slater appeared at Super Megafest Comic-Con last weekend, and she revealed some pretty good news. She told Telegram.com that she’s in the pilot and has a guest star contract which lets the show bring her on as much as they want.
Sworn to secrecy, Slater, who played Superman’s cousin Kara on the big screen-version of “Supergirl” 30 years ago, has signed a nondisclosure agreement in connection with her guest-starring role on CBS’s eagerly anticipated “Supergirl” series.
“I’m in the pilot and I have a contract as a guest star, which means they can use me as much as they want,” said Slater, who is as lovely as ever. “It’s all hush, hush.”
This is terrific news because it almost certainly confirms she’s playing Sylvia Danvers and she will have an ongoing role. That Slater still can’t say who she’s playing because of a NDA is pretty funny because it’s not like we can’t guess. It really doesn’t matter at this point.

New England Super Megafest’s inaugural Spring Fever Spectacular this past weekend in Marlboro had something for everyone.
And with superheroes, science-fiction, fantasy and horror (of the zombie apocalypse and “Rocky” variety) more popular and mainstream than ever, there was plenty of fodder to tweet or post on Facebook.
Take Helen Slater, for instance. Just when she thought she was out of the “Superman” universe, they pull her back in.
Sworn to secrecy, Slater, who played Superman’s cousin Kara on the big screen-version of “Supergirl” 30 years ago, has signed a nondisclosure agreement in connection with her guest-starring role on CBS’s eagerly anticipated “Supergirl” series.

This is not Slater’s first return to the Superman universe.
“I did do “Smallville,” you know,” Slater interjected, referring to her role as Superman’s birth mother, Lara, on the long-running WB/CW drama “Smallville.” “So I have been in the Superman universe, partially. I can’t get out of it.”
While she is mum about her new part on “Supergirl,” Slater has nothing but praise for the show’s writers and its star, Melissa Benoist, even though Slater innocently confesses that she’s still not sure how to pronounce the new Kara’s last name right.
“Greg Berlanti does ‘The Flash’ and ‘Arrow.’ He’s such a smart writer,” Slater said. “It was such a joy to do the pilot. My fingers are crossed that it goes well because they have a great cast. The girl playing Supergirl, Melissa Benoist, is fantastic.”
As for giving Benoist any sisterly advice, Slater said she didn’t have to because the new Supergirl is already that good.
“When I met her, we did the reading and she was fabulous. She did not need any advice at all,” Slater said of Benoist. “She’s sparkling and funny and delightful. She’s going to be awesome.”
Slater, who confesses she has the occasional flying dream — flying is on top of her list of what superpower she would love to possess — is flabbergasted on how big superheroes are today in pop culture.
“Isn’t it incredible? What is going on in the zeitgeist?” Slater said. “Every network now has superhero shows. Now, CBS will have ‘Supergirl’ … I guess, people just want that mythic hero thing right now.”
