I would buy the heck out of THIS DC Universe

For the record, I’m not buying any of the DC New 52. In the end, it was a surprisingly easy decision. To echo the sentiments expressed in this thread, I’m waiting for DC to repopulate their universe with interesting people.

BUT.

I would be one of the fans swearing to buy every single book in the new DCU if it looked like THIS.

The Gender Bent Justice League Cosplayers

You can read about the cosplaying group Gender Bent Justice League in their interview with LA Weekly, which has many more awesome images of the cosplayers in character. There’s also a genderswapped Power Girl and Huntress who highlight the gendered double standard in superhero costumes. More cosplaying goodness by this group at Kit (Superma’am) Quinn’s Tumblr.

This Justice League makes me so excited I can’t even say.

the second picture is just made of AWESOME. those are some dedicated/talented cosplayers.
and you’re right, this Justice League seems far more interesting than the new DC reboot.

Yep! Love them! Got to chat with a few on my tumblr, too! They’re all really awesome. :)

Admittedly I would miss Wonder Woman and Power Girl an awful lot, but if it were a smaller “Ultimates” line in addition to the main DCU (you know, that fabled parallel universe where all the female and characters of colour reside), it would be pretty sweet.

Totally agree! An AU series of this-like the excellent “Elseworld’s Finest: Supergirl & Batgirl” one-shot-would ROCK!

I’d love to see this done in some way, shape or form…

Maybe people should send in letters or petitions to DC to make this happen?

Heck, Lois Lane got a solo series so, why can’t they? ^_^

It might be even more interesting if in that alternate universe, if everyone there used all gender neutral pronouns such as “ze” and “hir,” instead of “he,” “she,” “him,” and “her.”

Such a language change might further challenge a lot of ideas about what it means to be Super”man” or Power “Girl”. Sure they might have the physique of amazing breasts or a fantastic member between the legs, but they might be valued even more for quite simply — the unique, super individuals that they are.

This is certainly an interesting topic of potentiality.

Brilliant! You’re right, codenames built on sex would be unfathomable in such a universe.

(Now I’m thinking of Janet Evason in The Female Man explaining that “Evason is not ‘son’ but ‘daughter.’ This is your translation”.)

Only if they modelled Superwoman after that cosplayer. She has the *perfect* hair and look!

I know! I wish there was more of that one-shot. It was a fantastic read! :)
